Abstract
Hpylori, Gram negative rod form microaerophilic bacilli, has recently been found as a major etiologic agent of gastritis, ulcer or gastric carcinoma. So currently routine various clinical and laboratory detection methods of H.pylori infection is popular in civilian medical hospitals despite its high cost burden. But, in military hospitals, routine examination of this agent is scarcely made, though the extraordinary merit of histopathologic method is enabling to review the overall appearance of gastric inflammation as well as H.pylori directly.
In this study, in order to investigate the relationship of chronic gastritis and H.pylori infection in military, 200 cases of endoscopic biopsy specimens from gastric symptomatic group and health check-up subjects group are embedded into glass slide and H&E stained, followed by microscopic examination.
Our results revealed that the prevalence, severity of chronic gastritis & H.pylori infection increased with aging about 40. The prevalence rate of chronic gastritis was 96% and 82% in gastric symptomatic group and check-up subjects group, respectively. The prevalence rate of moderate to severe grade of chronic gastritis was 73% and 45%, respectively. The H.pylori infection rate was 47% and 29%, respectively. This infection rate was increasing according to the severity of gastric inflammation. Also the infection rate shows higher in age group of 40 than 20. In light of detecting H.pylori, a classical histopathologic examination of endoscopic specimen is far more reliable and simple inexpensive method than other indirect detection methods. To be concluded in this study, routine histopathologic examination of chronic gastritis and H.pylori infection in military population is considered to be significant.
